Raised in the British choral tradition, Andrew McAnerney is a versatile and accomplished conductor, singer, and educator. Andrew studied music at the University of Oxford (Magdalen College) and built his career performing with many of Europe’s finest vocal ensembles including the world renowned Tallis Scholars.

Andrew is the Artistic Director of Le Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal (SMAM), The Cantata Singers of Ottawa (CSO) and Director of the Men & Boys choir at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa. Andrew has toured extensively and guest directed a wide variety of Canadian choirs and orchestras including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Arion Baroque Orchestra, and Elora Singers.

His work with SMAM has been nominated for the Prix Opus in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and the Studio’s 2018 New France project was featured on Ici Musique and BBC Radio 3 in the United Kingdom. The Studio recently appeared under his direction at the National Art Centre for three performances of Monteverdi’s Vespers with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

His most recent recording with SMAM, Orlando di Lasso: Laudate Dominum (ATMA), received critical acclaim from around the world (rated **** Le Devoir).
